Day 416.

Who is left outThe EU. No EU country is on Apple's list, only the French overseas department of Réunion. The UK, Switzerland and Norway have it. Some other big markets, such as Japan, India and Brazil, are not on the list either, but the EU is the only place where we found Apple saying it held the feature back.

Clock started15 Sep 2025. iOS 26 shipped on 15 Sep 2025, and Apple named Visited Places in that day's release.

Why not yet?

Apple saysApple says the Digital Markets Act is why: "We’ve also had to delay useful features like Visited Places and Preferred Routes on Maps" (Apple Newsroom, 24 Sep 2025).
The EU saysAnswering Apple's wider complaint, Commission spokesman Thomas Regnier said there is "nothing in the DMA that requires companies to lower their privacy standards, their security standards" (25 Sep 2025). We found no Commission comment on Visited Places itself (checked 5 Nov 2026).

Watching for arrivalOn each check run we re-read every source a script can open. Pages that block scripts are read by hand when we research that timer, and the date above shows when. Check runs are started by hand, not on a schedule. We also scan the company's news feed for this feature. If the proof above disappears, the next run flags the timer and we research it that day.
Change log
  • 5 Nov 2026 Apple's list names the UK.
  • 5 Nov 2026 New timer. Apple's availability page read today lists 32 places and no EU member state, apart from Réunion. Apple Newsroom (24 Sep 2025) names Visited Places as delayed by the DMA. iPhoneSoft (11 Oct 2026) still reports it missing. Preferred Routes, the same Apple sentence, is not a separate timer: the UK is out too and Apple does not explain that.
