Apple Reference Image on iPhone 18 Pro

Not available in the EU

Day 48.

days since it launched elsewhere

Who is left outThe EU: Reference mode is missing from the Camera app, so an iPhone 18 Pro in the EU cannot take these photos. EU users can still develop and view reference images. Apple also holds it back in China mainland. Apple names no other place. (Apple's support page is dated 17 Sep 2026.)

Clock started18 Sep 2026. iPhone 18 Pro went on sale on 18 Sep 2026 with Reference mode, which signs a photo at the sensor to prove it is real. The same phones sold in the EU do not have it in the Camera app.

How we checked this

StatusVerified: every key fact checked against the company or the EU itself. Trust score 100/100 (how it works).
Proof it is still missing
Backed by3 first-hand sources (the company or the EU), from 4 publishers: Apple, thenextweb.com, iphone-ticker.de, co.uk.
Watching for arrivalOn each check run we re-read every source a script can open. Pages that block scripts are read by hand when we research that timer, and the date above shows when. Check runs are started by hand, not on a schedule. We also scan the company's news feed for this feature. If the proof above disappears, the next run flags the timer and we research it that day.
Change log
  • 5 Nov 2026 Positive source that the UK has it.
  • 5 Nov 2026 Says the proof page is dated.
  • 5 Nov 2026 New timer. Apple's support page read today says "In the EU, Reference mode is not available in Camera". Start date is the iPhone 18 Pro sale date on Apple Newsroom. Apple gives a reason for China but none for the EU. English, French and German searches found no sign that iOS 27.2 (26 Oct 2026) changed this.
